Your due date is estimated by adding 40 weeks (280 days) to the approximate date of conception. The date of conception is considered to be about 2 weeks after the first day of your last menstrual cycle. Only 5% of women deliver their babies on their projected due date, so this date should be used as an estimate. It is not an exact calculation.

Abortion Pill FAQ

How does a medication abortion work?

7B Care Clinic does not refer or provide abortions of any kind. This evidence- based information is to help you make an educated decision, having all the facts.

Medication abortion is a two-step process using oral drugs. Mifepristone blocks progesterone, a hormone essential for embryo support, leading to the breakdown of the uterine lining and fetus deprivation of nutrients and oxygen – resulting in the demise of the fetus. Misoprostol, taken 24-48 hours later, induces cramping to expel the uterine contents, including the fetus.

When can a medication abortion be performed?

7B Care Clinic does not refer or provide abortions of any kind. This evidence- based information is to help you make an educated decision, having all the facts.

You are only eligible for a medication abortion if you are less than ten weeks into your pregnancy. After ten weeks, a surgical abortion must be performed to terminate a pregnancy.

How effective is a medication abortion?

7B Care Clinic does not refer or provide abortions of any kind. This evidence- based information is to help you make an educated decision, having all the facts.

The effectiveness of a medication abortion depends on a variety of factors.  It is most effective during the first 8 weeks of pregnancy. During weeks 9-10, medication abortions become less effective. Effectiveness is also dependent on taking both drugs correctly at the right times, obtaining the medications from a reputable medical doctor (i.e., not online), following up with your doctor to confirm the fetus was fully expelled, and ruling out complications.

Can a medication abortion be reversed?

If you have taken the Abortion Pill and want to reverse it, call the Abortion Pill Reversal Hotline at 877-558-0333.

A medication abortion can be reversed, but time is of the essence. A reversal protocol should be started within 24 hours of taking the first pill, mifepristone. However, many successful reversals have also occurred when the protocol was started within 72 hours of taking only the first pill.

For more information, visit the Abortion Pill Reversal website:

What is the treatment for reversal of a medication abortion?

First, an ultrasound must be done as soon as possible to confirm the baby’s heart rate, placement, and dating of the pregnancy. Then, a doctor will prescribe progesterone, a hormone that naturally occurs when a woman becomes pregnant. The abortion pill blocks progesterone that supports the pregnancy. Without progesterone, the uterine lining breaks down, resulting in the deprivation of oxygen and nutrients to the little human growing inside of you who dies as a result.  The treatment to reverse the effects of the abortion pill is to replace the progesterone hormone. Progesterone can be given orally, vaginally, or by intramuscular injection.  The treatment will usually continue for at least two- weeks and possibly through the first trimester of pregnancy.

What is the success rate of abortion pill reversal?

Initial studies of abortion pill reversal have shown it has a 64-68% success rate.

Without the treatment, the first abortion pill may fail to abort the pregnancy on its own. In other words, the pregnancy may continue even without reversal treatment if you decide not to take the second abortion drug. Reversal treatment has been shown to increase the chances of allowing the pregnancy to continue. However, the outcome of your particular reversal attempt cannot be guaranteed.

The abortion clinic said I have to complete the abortion process; is that true?

No, it is always your choice to change your mind. Even if you have started the medication abortion process, reversal may still be a choice for you.  Call the Abortion Pill Reversal Hotline at 877-558-0333.

Even though I regret taking the pill, I still cannot keep and raise this baby alone. What do I do?
